Description

Your support has been incredible, truly mind blowing actually. Thank you especially to those that have shared my patches on Facebook groups and forums. You doing that helps a small creator like me tremendously, honestly more than you know. If you like the presets please post your impressions online and if possible tag me (@Tanner Yates on FB) so that I can thank you personally. Any help I can get to spread the word is awesome!

Patch Details:

I set out to create an incredibly versatile, amazing sounding Helix patch based around the Plexi sound and in the process realized the Helix offered so many Plexi-ish amp varieties that I couldn’t just settle on one…..so I made three! Each offering something a little different, this pack includes presets using the Plexi Bright amp model, the Park 75 Bright amp model, and the Plexi Tremolo Bright amp model.

All presets in this pack feature the following effects pre-setup for you:
Compressor, 3 overdrive pedals, volume pedal, vibrato, tremolo, 4 delay blocks (2 both before and 2 after the amp block), a ‘Dirty Verb’ block before the amp, and what I’m most proud of, my version 2 ‘Modverb’ reverb setup.

There are 12 (!) total presets included in this pack! They are labeled:

  • P75 = Brit P75 Brt Helix Model (Park 75 Treble Channel)
  • Plexi = Brit Plexi Brt Helix Model (100w Marshall Plexi Treble Channel)
  • Trem = Brit Trem Brt Helix Model (Marshall Plexi Tremolo 50 Treble Channel)
  • S = Patches built for single coil guitars
  • SSC = Patches built for single coil guitars using stock cabs
  • H = Patches built for humbucker guitars
  • HSC = Patches built for humbucker guitars using stock cabs

I recommend trying BOTH S & H versions of the patch with your guitar to see which one gives you a better starting point for your tonal preferences. To learn more about adjusting presets for your specific guitar check out this video: https://youtu.be/aqneGjqtwAk

The preset is laid out in 10 stomp mode with a live-ready setup that allows you to get any sound you might need on the fly. LT users will lose the two most leftward footswitches so I made sure only ancillary effects would be in those slots. I have also setup one snapshot in slot 8 labeled “Swell” (helix in 8 snapshot mode). This snapshot allows you to quickly access a ready-to-go, lush swell sound quickly and easily.

Stock Cabs:

I tend to prefer IR’s for a few different reasons. In particular they use less DSP so you can fit more in a preset, and they tend to sound and feel more realistic to me. The biggest difference to my ears is the midrange, the upper upper treble frequencies, and the detail in the low end. With that being said, great tone can still be had with stock cabs and this preset pack is no different! I included versions of every preset with stock cabs dialed in so you don’t have to use IR’s if you don’t want to.

IR Cabs:

Despite really enjoying the stock cabs, there are some definite benefits that come from IR’s. It’s hard to describe but each of the below IR’s offered something a little different that I enjoyed versus the stock cab included with the presets. I tested every IR I could find to pick the best ones to recommend and ultimately my favorites are listed below (will update as I try new IR’s and find more I like).

  • OH 412 MRBW GNR M25 OH1/2
    • https://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186&products_id=438
    • My favorite IR overall for this preset comes from this pack from Ownhammer. Specifically I really enjoyed the OH2-05 mix
    • These IR’s have a sense of space to them that I enjoy and are just really well rounded. The upgrade between this and the Redwirez IR’s are the mixes of multiple mic’s to get a little more fine tuned of a cab tone. I prefer the OH 1 or OH 2 mixes overall and I recommend sticking with those two at first and trying out the different options within the OH1/2 mixes to find the sweet spot between brightness and fullness for your particular guitar.
  • OH 412 MRBW M75-GNR
  • Redwirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-R121-CapOffAxis-0.5in
    • A very realistic sounding IR with top end bite / sizzle and a full bottom end with a slight scoop in the mids.
  • Redwirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-SM7-Cone-1in
    • This IR features that dynamic mic sound with a unique full mid range. Depending on your guitar / low end preferences try out the 0-3in versions.
  • Redwirez Marshall1960A-G12Ms-SM57-Coneedge-0.5in
    • The classic SM57 sound is captured with this IR pretty well. It doesn’t have the rounded edges of the R121 and offers a different flavor mid range to the SM7. It’s a little more aggressive which could work better in a mix. If it’s too thin or has too much low end for your guitar try the 0-3in versions or the “cone-1in” version.

*All Redwirez IR’s recommended above came from their FREE pack, which I learned they changed to include different impulse responses than the original. Still worth grabbing their free pack to check out: https://redwirez.com/pages/the-marshall-1960a-ir-pack

It’s important to note that these IR’s are not requirements, and I whole heatedly recommend you try out the stock cabs as well as your existing impulse responses first (but be prepared to make EQ adjustments to match your specific IR’s, they make a massive difference in tone). If it sounds good, it is good, regardless of what type of cab or brand of IR you use.

Thanks so much for the support, I hope you enjoy the patch!

Looks like another fine patch. Of the 3 amp models, which one would be the most versatile in a worship environment? P75 Brt, Brit Plexi Brt, or the Brit Trem Brt? Also; I found it hugely beneficial to watch your video with your AC30 patch where you dialed in some snapshots. It gave me some confidence to my own setup with song-specific patches for last Sunday. Thanks again!

Incredible !! I purchased your Plexi Pack last night and once again I’m blown away . Just like your AC30 TB package that I previously purchased, they sound exactly the same ( perfect) after being downloaded as they do when you are demonstrating them. Too many times I have purchased Patches from other well known You Tubers only to hear them fall way short of the sound I thought I purchased. Thank you ! You have quickly become my favorite. Your patches are well thought out and sound incredible. You also explain, in detail, how to tweak every parameter of every effect of each patch in the “read me “ file . Absolutely Outstanding !! Can’t wait for your next Patch Bundle
