Description

Your support has been incredible, truly mind blowing actually. Thank you especially to those that have shared my patches on Facebook groups and forums. You doing that helps a small creator like me tremendously, honestly more than you know. If you like the presets please post your impressions online and if possible tag me (@Tanner Yates on FB) so that I can thank you personally. Any help I can get to spread the word is awesome!

Patch Details:

The Yeatzee Guitar AC30TB preset was built from the ground up taking what I’ve learned from using the Helix over the past few years to create what I think is the best and most complete AC30 patch on the market.

Utilizing the Vox AC30 Top Boost model in the Helix (known as “Essex”), this preset features a compressor, several overdrive pedals, volume pedal, vibrato, tremolo, multiple delay blocks both before and after the amp, a ‘Dirty Verb’ block before the amp, and what I’m most proud of, my version 2 ‘Modverb’ reverb setup.

There are 6 total presets included in the pack. They are labeled:

  • 27 = Helix patch compatible with Helix devices that have not updated to 2.8+ firmware yet. They feature a unique drive section so even if you’re on current firmware give them a try!
  • S = Patches built for single coil guitars
  • SSC = Patches built for single coil guitars using Stock Cabs
  • H = Patches built for humbucker guitars
  • HSC = Patches built for humbucker guitars using Stock Cabs

I recommend trying BOTH S & H versions of the patch with your guitar to see which one gives you a better starting point for your tonal preferences. To learn more about adjusting presets for your specific guitar check out this video: https://youtu.be/aqneGjqtwAk

The preset is laid out in 10 stomp mode with a live-ready setup that allows you to get any sound you might need on the fly. LT users will lose the two most leftward footswitches so I made sure only ancillary effects would be in those slots. I have also setup one snapshot in slot 8 labeled “Swell” (helix in 8 snapshot mode). This snapshot allows you to quickly access a ready-to-go, lush swell sound quickly and easily. The rest of the snapshots are left blank as a clean template for you to set it up with your preferred workflow.

Stock Cabs:

I tend to prefer IR’s for a few different reasons. In particular they use less DSP so you can fit more in a preset, and they tend to sound and feel more realistic to me. The biggest difference to my ears is the midrange, the upper upper treble frequencies, and the detail in the low end. With that being said, great tone can still be had with stock cabs and this preset pack is no different. I demo’d all of the stock cabs and included two versions of the patch with stock cabs so you don’t have to use IR’s if you don’t want to. It’s not exact to the preset using my preferred IR’s, I think the Helix’s vox style stock cabs are one of it’s weak points so I went with something different that still sounds great but does give a different flavor.

IR Cabs:

I tested every IR I could find to pick the best ones to recommend and ultimately my favorites are listed below (will update as I try new IR’s and find more I like).

  • Tone Junkies M75-Fathead906
  • David Hislop DH 2X12 Green R40 3-4in
    • Really one of my favorite greenback vox IR’s. It’s well rounded, full and warm but still has a nice top end. It’s fatter than the Tone Junkies IR with a smoother top end and overall more polite.

  • Ownhammer (r)Evolution Pack
    • These IR’s are great. The debut bundle is an incredible value, there are more IR’s than you’ll ever need and they cover every major cab out there.these sound a bit more HiFi, have a more extended treble range and a bit more punch with less low end in general. There are probably thousands of IR’s to choose from in this pack so it took a long time A/Bing them to pick my favorites, but here they are with some recommended setting adjustments.
    • ownhammer.com/store/debut-bundle
      • OH 212 VC30 BLU-12C VINTAGE DK
      • OH 112 VC15 SLV-12B VINTAGE DK
      • OH VC15+VC30 VINTAGE DK
      • OH VC15+VC30 WARM M+
        • With these you may want to start with the high cut of the IR’s around 7khz and/or drop the amp’s trebleΒ  control by about 0.7 and go from there. These are thinner and brighter in general.

It’s important to note that these IR’s are not requirements, and I whole heatedly recommend you try out the stock cabs as well as your existing impulse responses first (but be prepared to make EQ adjustments to match your specific IR’s, they make a massive difference in tone). If it sounds good, it is good, regardless of what type of cab or brand of IR you use.

Thanks so much for the support, I hope you enjoy the patch!

I recently discovered your channel and I have to say it has become my favorite. Everything you make sounds the same after downloading it . You have
Incredible taste in your choices and your playing. Love your stuff! Thank you

I totally agree! I’ve just get the Plexy-ish presets, and I’m gonna buy also the Voxy patches in some seconds… πŸ˜‰

I love the sounds you have made. I don’t have but 1 electric guitar, a Gretsch 5120, and I’m playing it at church. I’ve had my Helix LT for about 9 days now and I love it but I’m having problems getting good sounds. I’ve had an HD Pod 500x for about a year before getting the Helix so I not totally out of touch but I tend to find 1 patch and use it for everything. The leads I play sound ok but if I play full bar chords it just growls into a terrible noise. I know it’s just $7.00 but I don’t want to waste money on something that will not work with my guitar. Do you have any idea if your patch will work with my guitar? I’m older (late 60s) and most of my experience is with acoustic guitar in my home. Now my church need me playing contemporary Christian music on electric and I’m lost as to what effects make what sounds and how to make them better or worse.

Hey Steve, way behind on replying totally missed all of these great comments that were left (didn’t know I had to approve them before they got posted!). It’ll absolutely work great with that guitar, if you haven’t already check out my youtube channel Yeatzee Guitar, I’ve got a lot of helpful videos on there for setting up the Helix patches for your guitar and dialing everything in πŸ™‚

Ok, I went ahead and purchased your patch and I love it. I haven’t heard my guitar sound better. I still have a lot to learn but you have given me a very good start. Some of the settings still growl a little but not near as bad as with the other patches I have tried and some if them sound great. I couldn’t be more happy.

I have the patch and love it for my LT. However, since I’m using the LT I rely on my display and when I press the medium/big button it changes my view so I can’t see the pedals on the display anymore. Do you know anyway around that? Seems to push my system into the “controller learn” mode.

Hey Josh that happens if you touch the footswitch with bare skin, it’s a setting in the helix which allows you to select assigned blocks without having to use the joystick to move around. You can disable it in the settings menu (can’t remember off the top of my head what it’s called, but it should be pretty obvious). When you’re out playing using your feet to press footswitches it won’t happen though πŸ™‚

Great AC30 patch, best one I have come across so far! I’ve purchased good patches from others, Alex/Troy/WT, but this one really stands out.

Best $7 investment in the history of $7.
